PROBLEMS OF STRATIGRAPHY AND GEOCHRONOLOGY OF THE UKRAINIAN SHIELD
Language: Ukrainian
Mineralogical journal 2018, 40 (1): 16-31
Abstract: Propositions of V.P. Kyrylyuk as to stratigraphic partitioning of early Precambrian formations of the Ukrainian Shield as a whole and rock association of the Dniester-Bug megablock in particular are analyzed. On an example of supercrustal formations of the Dniester-Bug megablock it is shown, that among rocks of granulitic association, in addition to that stratogenic formations (primarily sedimentary, volcanogenic, chemogenic and others) there are later (intrusive-magmatic, metasomatic) rocks which formation is caused by the superimposed endogenic activity. The morphology of these units, their relations with other supercrustal rocks and occurrence modes are formed as the result of the same superimposed endogenic activity. A simple assumption that these formations may be treated as suites will only lead to the increase in volumes of these stratigraphic units, to the need of the allocation of artificial (not really existing) stratigraphic subdivisions and the interpretation of contacts of their vein (intrusive magmatic and metasomatic) varieties as primary stratification can cause wrong interpretation of tectonic structure of the territory. Plutonic (metamorphosed dikes of diabases) and metasomatic (biotite, garnet-biotite gneisses, granulites and eulysite) formations are also found in rhythmical-layered alumina-basic formations. These rocks being extracted from the geological section, the remained petroparagenesis will include hypersthene, bi-pyroxene plagiogneisses and crystalloshists that is typical of Tyvrivka strata (enderbite-gneiss formation). Leucocratic biotite and garnet-biotite gneisses that comprise about 80 % of high-alumina-quartzitic formation volume (Kosharo-Oleksandrivka suite) are also metasomatic in origin.
Keywords: the Ukrainian Shield, stratigraphic scheme, Dniester-Bug megablock, granulitic association.
