Some Actual Aspects of the Development of the Ore Genesis Studies in M.P. Semenenko Institute of Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Ore Formation of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
Abstract: The Ukrainian Shield is the most promising geological region in Ukraine for exploration of ore deposits. The need for a reliable forecast for identification of the most promising geological sites for exploration of industrial content of gold, tungsten, molybdenum, uranium, thorium and rare metals in the rocks of the Ukrainian Shield causes the relevance of the study of the geological and structural conditions of localization, mineralogical, petrographic and geochemical characteristics, and the determination of the formation of different genetic types of ores. The article presents the main achievements of the department of Geology and Geochemistry of Ore Deposits of the MP. Semenenko Institute of Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Ore Formation of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for the last decades. The features of gold-bearing potential of the Middle Dnipro greenstone belt areas as well as Precambrian complexes of the western part of the Ukrainian Shield have been defined. Genetic classification of main types of molybdenum- and tungsten-bearing metasomatites of Precambrian complexes of the Ukrainian Shield has been compiled. Geochemistry of REE-U-Th occurrences of the western part of the Ukrainian Shield was studied and criteria for localization of ore mineralization were specified: structural, lithological, magmatic, mineralogical, isotopic and geochemical ones. Perhaps, the scientific contribution of the department to the study of processes of ore genesis during its existence is presented briefly, but it is much more significant. There is a proposition for following geologic exploration works on ore objects mentioned, especially the Solone ore field: to study and estimate them in a complex way. It means providing common scientific base for prospecting surveys and mining works that may be more effective and eventually makes these objects more investment-attractive.
Keywords: ore genesis, gold, molybdenum, tungsten, uranium, thorium, ore deposits.
