Abstract:

Volodymyr Vasylyovych Riznychenko (October 18, 1870 - April 1, 1932) was an outstanding Ukrainian geologist, academician (1929) of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, one of the founders and heads of the Ukrainian Geological Committee and the Ukrainian Research Geological Institute (now the Institute of Geology of the NAS of Ukraine). He studied the geological structure and tectonics of Ukraine, Central Asia and Kazakhstan, including the Tarbagatai, Tien-Shan, and Southern Altai mountains. Compiled the first geological and tectonic map of the Southern Altai. The Russian Geographical Society noted the scientific feat of the scientist with an honorary award - the Silver Medal named after N.M. Przhevalsky (1914). Thoroughly covered the stratigraphy and tectonics of the Middle Dnieper, especially the Kaniv Mountains, organized and led the first comprehensive expedition to the Dnieper hydroelectric power plant. Organizer of the Commission for the Study of the Anthropogenic Period in Ukraine. The Inventory Book of the Geological Museum (National Museum of Natural History of the NAS of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) includes the collections of V.V. Riznychenko, collected by him throughout his life.
